The ushering ministry is a very important ministry for 3 reasons. The first most important role to be aware is the welcoming role ushers take while members arrive at the door of the sanctuary; they set the tone with their uplifting spirit; a bright smile and words of welcome can help the attendees with an attitude ready to offer praise to god and put aside all other thoughts attendees may have that could be a disturbance to the heart during the worship time. Although ushers have no control about what's going on in someone's heart and mind, their warm welcome can dissipate, some of the thoughts attendees may have...at least temporarily. The second most very important role ushers have is to direct attendees to the worship place in manners that are courteous and agreeable. If Ushers act more into the role than the purpose of worshipping, they will defeat the purpose of attracting more guests. An usher's role is not to control or police the crowd, yet it is to direct people's attention toward the doors of the sanctuary. If conversations are taking place right at the doors of the sanctuary, the usher's role is to ask kindly those engage in discussions irrelevant to the worship to lower their voices or suggest them to enjoy the sitting area of the fellowship hall around a cup of coffee. The third reason is the most obvious; ushers are the first impression people have about what goes on inside the worship area. no one can replace a first impression. In a sense, it re-iterates what was said in the first paragraph only to re-enforce this point. The way ushers are dressed and their name tag will tell a little bit about them; such become a point of contact with everyone they greet. There is nothing more surprising or even frustrating than someone who greets you and you have no idea who they really are...at least their first name. You want to join the Ushers Ministry?
